10 Awesome 2019 Movies You Probably Missed

1. The Nightingale

Jennifer Kent's follow-up to The Babadook is one of the most uncompromising films of 2019, a challenging and deeply disturbing period thriller in which a young Irish convict (Aisling Franciosi) attempts to seek revenge on the British soldier (Sam Claflin) who brutalised her family.

A word of warning: if you're particularly sensitive to depictions of rape or murder, this might not be the film for you, but if you're prepared to follow Kent's full-throttle vision, The Nightingale is a hypnotic, utterly transfixing odyssey.

Franciosi is excellent as our embattled lead, and Sam Claflin gives easily the best performance of his career to date as our thoroughly detestable villain.

Soaked in dread but gorgeous in every single frame, this is an unforgettable experience, but make sure you've got something happy to watch afterwards.
