Lucas has one of the most typically 80s plot summaries imaginable. A 14-year-old loser tries to become a football player at his high school, in order to impress a dream girl. One of the earliest and best films of child actor Corey Haim's career, Lucas is at once heartbreaking, hopeful, funny and uplifting. Far from being a standard, trashy high school comedy, Lucas is as funny as it is tragic, thanks to intelligent writing and some remarkable performances from the child stars. Along with Haim, Charlie Sheen, Kerri Green and Courtney Thorne-Smith pitch in with great early performances. Lucas has since become best remembered for being the screen debut of Winona Ryder, but this tragicomedy deserves far more recognition as one of the best high school movies of the 80s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycZ8OQqrP2g
