10 Awesome Action Scenes That Defined Summer 2013

4. Khan's Escape - Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness was certainly more successful as an action film rather than a nuanced sequel to the brilliant original, and without question the best set-piece in the movie is at the climax, as the Enterprise and the Vengeance (the latter of which is being piloted by Khan) fall to Earth, while Kirk tries to fix the Enterprise's warp-core heads. Though few of us really expected Kirk to stay dead after his fatal bout of radiation poisoning, the real thrill of this action scene is of watching the Vengeance crash into San Francisco, before Spock beams there to give chase. The two fight atop a flying vehicle, and with the help of Uhura, Spock is able to bring Khan in. It's easily the most dynamic and thrilling scene in the entire movie; there's so much going on, the visuals are excellent, and we're left wondering all the time just how Kirk is going to be saved.
