10 Awesome Actors Who Automatically Improve Any Movie By Their Presence

4. A Fix Of Feisty Femininity - Amy Adams

It's hard for beautiful actresses in Hollywood to consistently find compelling roles to play without being reduced to being the designated eye candy in male-driven films. Five-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams has managed to avoid this pitfall, appearing in a bevy of acclaimed roles and infallibly bringing the goods each time.

Despite her impressive run of supporting and lead roles in major films, Adams toiled in obscurity for the first part of her career. Adams' first big movie role was in the critically-panned but hilarious comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. Adams' costar, Kirstie Alley, knew talent when she saw it and encouraged Adams to move to Los Angeles to break into the movie biz.

Adams landed bit parts in television shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville and That 70s Show. Even after getting a role in Steven Spielberg's hit film Catch Me If You Can, Adam's failed to turn herself into a household name. That all changed in 2007 when Adams won the lead role in Disney's Enchanted, a mega-hit that went on to make $340 million at the worldwide box office.

Since then, Adams has become a star, appearing in oscar-nominated turns alongside legendary actors and actresses such as Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Even with all the critical accolades, Adams is not above appearing in hilarious comedies like Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and superhero fare like Man of Steel.

Adams seems incapable of giving a less than stellar performance and is well on her way to becoming one of the most critically and commercially successful actresses of all time.
