10. Luminaris
Director: Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina) Through a stop motion technique known as pixilation (in which real actors are animated frame by frame), Luminaris tells a universal story in a very unique way. And, given the scale of invention and illumination on show, the setting of an electric light bulb factory couldn't be more appropriate. As daylight draws them through the streets of Buenos Aires, the workers face another long day sparking light bulbs into life. To us, it's a marvel but they've seen it a million times. One man has grander ambitions, however. He's working on a project of his own- one that may require him to break the rules... Rather like our protagonist in his Gondry-esque getaway, its impossible not to be lifted.
