10 Awesome Comic Book Movie Moments When Characters Received Power-Ups
3. David Banner In The Hulk
Ang Lees 2003 Hulk film may not have been memorable, and is considerably weaker than its 2008 counterpart, but it did gift the cinema with one of the most remarkable power-ups to ever grace the genre; besides the mutated Hulk dogs and poor CGI, this was perhaps the saving grace of the film- David Banner became inexplicably powered up through electricity, turning him into the rather peculiar combination of Absorbing Man and Zzzax. Although the film features Bruce Banners transformation from scientist to raging green monster, his fathers transformation is superior as it was unexpected. When seeing a superhero/comic film it is relatively easy to know what will happen; Peter Parker will be bitten by a mutated/radioactive spider, Bruce Banner will become the Hulk due to Gamma radiation, Steve Rogers will be transformed by the super-serum. The unexpected twist in Ang Lees otherwise forgettable film made it interesting to watch, not senseless action film that featured the military seeking Banner. The 2003 Hulk film had a deeper plot than its 2008 reboot, but it did fail to receive overly positive reviews from loyalist fans, and critics were mixed in their response to the film as well- since The Hulks outing in this film was rather lacklustre at best, the villainous transformation is perhaps the shining beacon of hope in comparison to a rather bleak film.
