7. Quint the Git - Jaws
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfX1MkMazwc Quint is easily the most animated and entertaining character in Steven Spielberg's inaugural blockbuster, but this deleted scene is notable because it doesn't feature him in the presence of Brody or Hooper; it's Quint going about his business by himself, demonstrating that when left unchecked, he is positively insane. He enters a music shop to buy piano wire for his fishing equipment, and the set-up seems normal enough, but then suddenly, his mood shifts completely, and he taunts a child attempting to play Ludwig Vans 9th Symphony on the clarinet. It's a hilarious and disturbing scene all at once, though given that Spielberg wants us to feel bad for Quint when he ends up biting it at the end of the film, we can at least understand why it was cut. Still, as an adult, understanding that people aren't nice 100% of the time, there's the feeling this scene should have been kept in the film; it adds a little more ambiguity to Quint's character, further suggesting that he is, in fact, as batty as a box of frogs.
