10 Awesome Directors Who Went Totally Insane (For One Movie)

5. Rob Reiner - North (1994)

North Roger Ebert's review for North is probably more famous than the movie itself, which has taken its deserved place at the bottom of an endless, stink-filled hole that nobody should ever even think about approaching, 'less they're willing to part with their dignity for good. As Ebert puts its: "I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it." Fact is, Rob Reiner has made tons of bad movies, but none of them mark him as insane. Except for North. North equals insanity. We're talking about a movie that Reiner made after he directed This Is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men in a row. In a freakin' row. Has any director ever made a run of movies that good without screwing up? Doing so well apparently sent Reiner mad, though, as he presumably decided to make the worst movie of all time in an effort to "give other directors a chance." To explain North to you would be a waste of time, because you're not going to watch it. I mean, just look at the picture above.
