10 Awesome Fan Theories That Improve Already Great Films

1. Gandalf Was Trying To Get To The Eagles - The Lord Of The Rings

The Theory: Why didn't the Fellowship simply fly the eagles to Mordor? That was actually Gandalf's plan all along. After escaping Isengard instead of heading straight to Rivendell Gandalf visited the eagles and came up with plan; he would bring them the ring-bearer and they'd fly him to Mount Doom. To keep the plan a secret he told no one, instead simply leading the Fellowship in the right direction. When the direct route to the eagles over the Misty Mountains failed the group was forced to through the Mines of Moria, dangerous because it took the team far from their secret destination. Gandalf doesn't make it through the mines, so his secret plan never came to fruition. He did, however, try to tell the Fellowship what to do with his last words, "fly you fools". Things can never get any better than this. How It Improves The Film: It completely eradicates one of the few major problems with Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings. The eagle plot hole is something we've picked at many times, finding the oft-stated explanation a bit lacklustre, but this theory feels like a logical explanation. It's obviously based off pure speculation, but given how in keeping with the characters it is, it's hard not to completely fall in love with the idea. Do you buy into any of these theories?
