10 Awesome Female Directors Who Need A Superhero Movie

8. Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay made a real name for herself with the release of 2014's Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma, and is currently hard at work on Disney's fantasy adventure A Wrinkle in Time. If she nails the latter, it'll cement her crossover from serious-minded art-house fare to more fanciful blockbuster territory, which would make her a terrific fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in particular.

True story: DuVernay was originally offered next year's Black Panther, but passed on it because her and Marvel didn't see eye-to-eye on the finer creative details of the movie.

How Likely Is It?: It really hinges on how well A Wrinkle in Time does and whether or not DuVernay can find a superhero movie that suits her filmmaking sensibilities, but the fact she's currently knee-deep in a lavish blockbuster for Disney is an encouraging indication that Black Panther was nothing personal. 7/10
