9. Lucky Number Slevin
Though divisive and not a conventional choice for this list, Lucky Number Slevin is in my mind a highly underrated entry into this genre of movie, and one need look no further than its status as a cult gem. Ignore the lame-brained title and the narrative revolves around Slevn Kelevra (Josh Hartnett), a young man staying in his buddy Nick's apartment when he is kidnapped by two men, who are working for The Boss (Morgan Freeman). The Boss ignores Slevin's pleas that he's not Nick, instead ordering him to repay Nick's gambling debt or kill "The Fairy", the son of his rival, The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley). Amusingly, Slevin returns home and is kidnapped again, this time by guys working for The Rabbi, who
also wants Nick to repay a large gambling debt. In addition to this, a sneaky assassin called Goodkat (Bruce Willis) is hot on Slevin's tail, combining to make this one of the more uproarious and over-the-top movies of its kind, as though Tarantino took the Hitchcock formula and re-wrote the book.
