8. Life Of Brian
The third and best of the Monty Python movies, Life of Brian follows Brian (Graham Chapman) from his birth, where he's born in a stable just next to Jesus Christ, and ends up finding himself mistaken for the Messiah. Taking the well-worn "switched at birth" narrative and infusing it with a daring religious bent, Life of Brian features everything that's great about Python, from the outrageous, surreal humour to the transfixing presence of the troupe themselves, with Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, and Michael Palin all starring in a variety of memorable roles. The religious satire mated with the mistaken identity plot reaches its most hilarious point when Brian is sentenced to die by crucifixion at the end of the film, and all he can do is hang there while Eric Idle belts out the immortal tune, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". While most of the scenarios on this list result in the eventual victim's liberation, in true Python style, that is not at all the case here.
