10 Awesome Moments Of Overkill In Movies

1. Braindead (1992)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC1d7dw24Gg In Dawn of the Dead, 'when there is no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth'. In Braindead, it's just 'all Hell breaks loose'... Let's say that if you had to fight an army of brain eating zombies in the comfort of your own home, which weapon would you choose to defend yourself? That's right, a lawnmower! Well, maybe not, but you get the picture. Indeed, the tool's sharp rotating blades are not only efficient for cutting grass but human limbs too. This scene is gorefest at its finest. The zombies keep walking towards the deadly instrument while their limbs fly everywhere. Blood soon starts covering the walls and the floor, while arms and legs pile up. And in case this gross butchery was not enough to make it to the top of this list, a head is seen bouncing on the floor, like in a sick pinball game, before someone grabs it and throws it in a blender€ The whole sequence is absolutely hilarious, not only because of the orgy of bad taste (also the title of the director's previous film) and splatter humor, but because the bloodbath is accompanied by a great piece of sweet music, leading this slaughter to the point of complete absurdity. Kiwi gore specialist Peter Jackson was probably inspired by Ash's chainsaw from Evil Dead 2 since both films share the same appeal for Grand Guignol gore effects and nonsensical slapstick humor. But the sequence itself is a favorite among gore aficionados and has since been referenced in several movies (the chopper scene in 28 Weeks Later) or video games (you can use a lawnmower as a weapon in Dead Rising). Who knew that a filmmaker with such visual poetic sensibility would then go to direct Heavenly Creatures and the Lord of the Rings trilogy?
