Hooch is arguably one of the most famous dogs in film and his partnership with Turner has become iconic and cemented its place in cinematic history. The buddy cop-canine act was a real hit with the audience and follows the story of Scott Turner (Tom Hanks); a Police Investigator who acquires Hooch after the dogs owner is murdered. Believing Hooch to be the only witness, he takes the dog in who promptly turns his life upside down. The fact is Hooch would be a nightmare pet. He doesnt like visitors, he slobbers everywhere and hes yet to find something he couldnt put his teeth through. Hooch is like that horrid university friend we all lived with who drank too much, made a mess everywhere and picked up girls every night. Yet you cant help but love him because hes funny and undyingly loyal. You know the dog is something special when he bursts onto the scene to Richard Strauss 2001 Space Odyssey theme. The Dogue de Bordeaux breed is known for their courageous nature and that couldnt sum up Hooch better. The dog has no fear and goes as far as to chase the man who murdered his former owner down the street. Unfortunately, like most beloved animals in cinema, Hooch didnt make it to the credits as he took a bullet for Turner and died shortly after; going down as one of the most heroic dogs you could ever ask for as a pet. If youre ever murdered, rest assured that Hooch will avenge you.
