10 Awesome Movie Inventions (That Would Suck In Real Life)
1. Back To The Future: DeLorean Time Machine
What more can be said of a time machine masquerading as a 1980's sports cars that had gull-wing doors? How about it doing a poor job at being a time machine?
Of all the cars Doc Brown could've used to make a time machine on wheels, he had to go with one of the worst. A DeLorean DMC-12 is known to be heavy, underpowered, and over priced. Embarrassingly, 0-100mph took 40 seconds, which means that you’re going to need an awful lot of road to get to 88mph. There's also the reliability of the time-machine parts of the car. When the time circuits decide to ignore your destination, there is an inherent risk of being stranded somewhere in the past or future where replacement flux capacitor parts are hard to come by.
And then there is just regular maintenance of the actual car. The DeLorean isn't exactly known for its reliability and with only about 8,500 cars ever built, repairs, spare parts, and people with maintenance know-how won't be easy to come by. So all in all, a DeLorean time machine will probably need a jumpstart once you get the keys, require an entire highway to get up to 88mph (if it can), and then it'll probably leave you stranded somewhere in time.
