10 Awesome Movie Inventions (That Would Suck In Real Life)
2. Inception: PASIV Dream Machine
Living in a dream world using Inception's PASIV dream machine where you could control everything and defy physics is the epitome of awesome, but it brings several major problems. The movie only touches the surface of these problems, such as hours in a dream world is mere minutes in the real world, seedy opium-den lookalikes that offer dreaming as a means for escape instead of actual opium, and people stealing or implanting ideas into sleeping people's dreams. The reality is much worse.
The ability to infiltrate dreams or to live in a fantasy dream world using a suitcase will mean that a majority of society will be split between those who want to dream and those who refuse. By offering of dreaming dens to people seeking to dream their mundane lives away will mean that the world's productivity will slow to a crawl as half the workforce will be busy sleeping. On the other side of the coin, the rich and powerful would refuse to sleep due to fear and paranoia of thieves infiltrating their subconscious.
Half of the World's people would be people lying uselessly on a bed somewhere, whilst the other half would be gripped with paranoia and insomnia. On a slightly positive note though, these paranoid rich and powerful people would give coffee sales a massive boost.
