8. The Battle Of Hattin - Kingdom Of Heaven
The Battle of Hattin is notorious in The Crusades as an epic disaster of (ironically) biblical proportions. It saw a horse-based Crusader army waltz off into the desert rather than protect the Kingdom Of Jerusalem, only to be chopped down by the much-better-suited camel-armies of Saladin. As a direct consequence of this act, the Saracens were able to take Jerusalem and other major strongholds, leaving the Christian presence in the region greatly diminished. We're told a lot about this disaster in Kingdom Of Heaven, but that's just it told. Bailian Of Ibelin played by Orlando Bloom in all his wooden glory tells all who care to listen that meeting Saladin at Hattin would be a disaster. Maybe because he can't emote enough, they ignore him and ride off into a slaughter. Sadly, we only ever get to see the aftermath of the whole escapade, and I think that's a shame. It robs us of the opportunity to see the true of idiocy of Jerusalem's sh*t-kicking heels, and though Ridley Scott makes it up to us with a tremendous siege of Jerusalem, I still would've lived to see some arrogant gits get their arses handed to them. But hell, I guess even within an immense director's cut, Scott had to draw the line somewhere.
