Most viewers were floored when The Prestige decided to reveal exactly what had been going on in front of their faces all along. The movie follows a rivalry between two great magicians, Alfred Borden, played by Christian Bale and Robert Angier, who was played by Hugh Jackman. Every trick they pull off is meant to outdo the other, and they take it too far.

When Angier goes to Nikola Tesla (played brilliantly by David Bowie) to help him with a trick called "The Real Transported Man," he gives him a machine that makes it possible for him to teleport from one place to the other. His trick is brilliant and simultaneously impossible.

The twist comes when it's revealed that he wasn't transporting at all; he was cloning himself and allowing his clone to drop into a pool of water to drown, each and every time the trick was played, but he takes it further than that.

Borden is blamed for the apparent death of his rival, and he's sent to prison, where he's hanged for the crime. This exacts the ultimate revenge due to the fact that Angier's wife, Julia, died during a trick gone wrong... but wait... there's one more twist!

It turns out that Borden was an identical twin all along, and had managed to fool everyone for years to keep his act going. He ultimately wins in the end, and shoots Angier, finally completing their lifelong game of one-upmanship.
