Brazil is one of Terry Gilliam's most brilliant films, and it's filled with satire, miles and miles of red tape, and fantasy. The film is about a low-level government employee who begins investigating the disappearance of a man who was taken in by the government, tortured, and killed due to a literal bug in the system.

It was literally a fly that landed on a typewriter, causing the wrong letter to be typed, thus calling for the wrong guy to be picked up. As his investigation continues, he finds the woman of his dreams, again, literally, as he had dreamt of her in a fantastical setting prior to meeting her.

Intrigued, he winds up becoming involved in her resistance movement, but only tangentially, though he still winds up getting into trouble. He's captured by his friend and co-worker, but just before he could be tortured, he's freed when the woman of his dreams busts him out.

The movie comes to a lovely conclusion; love conquers all, and ... wait a minute. Nope! It was all just a fever dream he was having while being tortured. He wasn't rescued at all; he was killed violently, and the system continued on long after his death.
