A movie adaptation of the 80s TV show 21 Jump Street should have been a dismal failure, yet under the control of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the results were surprisingly hilarious. Still, it was a fluke, right? There's no way that a second movie could recapture the same magic, right? Wrong. 22 Jump Street re-teams Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum for arguably the funniest film of the year, a sequel that spends most of its run-time complaining about why most sequels suck and gleefully poking fun at itself. The plot is pretty much the same as first time around, but as the characters themselves note, the sets are more expensive and there's more action, because of course, every movie sequel has to try and one-up what came before. Surely one of the most meta mainstream films ever made, 22's sequel-ribbing may fly over the heads of more casual cinemagoers, but the beauty of it is that the movie is still hilarious on its own terms as well. One particularly clever mid-film surprise adds an outrageously funny twist to proceedings, and though Ice Cube very nearly runs away with the film several times, it's Channing Tatum who continues to endear himself to audiences with his fantastic comic timing. It may also feature one of the greatest end-credits sequences of all time, and believe it or not, we actually can't wait for 23 Jump Street.
