10 Awesome Movies That Break The Fourth Wall

9. Fight Club

Edward Norton's so-called "Jack" frequently talks to us throughout Fight Club, though the film's fourth wall-breaking nature reaches an apex during what is also one of its most hilarious moments, as Jack begins explaining what his imaginary partner in crime, Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), does to make ends meet. Referring to him as "the guerrilla terrorist of the food service industry", he goes on to remark that "apart from seasoning the lobster bisque, he farted on the meringue, sneezed on braised endive, and as for the cream of mushroom soup, well...€. He pauses at this point, causing Tyler to prompt Jack with, "Go ahead. Tell 'em", and Jack simply tells us, "You get the idea". Not only hysterically funny because of the brilliant blocking during the scene - Tyler is facing away from the camera, urinating into someone's soup while Jack talks to us - it's also an extremely clever bit of filmmaking and a playfully fun interlude between all that nihilism.
