3. Dawn of the Dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpuNE1cX03c Much like The Terminator, it's all about the style and the effects that make the definitive zombie movie from George A. Romero seem totally dated. Though its themes about consumerism remain potent and intelligent today, it's all the superficial aspects that have suffered; visually, the thing looks very dated, with the 1970s clothing codes (flared trousers and polyester shirts are the order of the day) and various parts of the Mall that we're given glimpses of throughout the film. The plot, characters and dialogue still work, but perhaps the most egregious aspects to me are the soundtrack (it's so aged), and the make-up effects; the blue-ish-grey zombie make-up looks cheesy by contemporary standards, though did at least give Romero's zombies a distinctive look. Thankfully the film is so excellent that it manages to transcend these issues, and most people game for a great zombie flick should be able to look past them.
