10 Awesome Movies That STILL Aren't On Blu-Ray

1. The Abyss

Solaris 2002
Fox

The fact that The Abyss still hasn't been released on Blu-Ray is nothing short of a head-scratcher. Released in 1989, the film received an overwhelmingly positive response, with much of the praise directed at its impressive special effects. In fact, the effects were so impressive that they ended up winning the film an Academy Award.

In case it wasn't obvious from that, the film is undoubtedly a bit of a visual experience - which is hardly surprising that it comes from the man who would go on to direct visual masterpieces like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Titanic and Avatar.

Like those films, The Abyss is a larger-than-life experience that should absolutely be seen in the best quality possible, so why hasn't it received a Blu-Ray release when all of those follow-ups have? What's even more frustrating is that we're living in an era that sees even the most visually-bland movies receiving unnecessary Blu-Ray releases, and yet something as revolutionary as The Abyss still isn't available in the format?

That being said, the reason for the lack of release could be down to the fact that the team behind it are still trying to perfect it. James Cameron revealed in 2016 that he's actually working on a 4K transfer of the film and that, like True Lies, he's just trying to find the time to perfect it.

So a Blu-Ray should be imminent then, right James?
