10 Awesome Movies With 99% On Rotten Tomatoes
1. Jiro Dreams Of Sushi
There are several documentaries with 99% scores, and while most of them deal with vital, urgent social issues, there are few which prove as charming and joyful as Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
David Gelb's film chronicles the life and times of elderly sushi master Jiro Ono, who runs a Michelin three-star sushi restaurant in Tokyo - and still does to this day - which has become a legendary haunt frequented by even Barack Obama himself.
What Gelb's documentary lacks in exuberant style it more than compensates for with its fascinating depiction of a man entirely committed to his craft - perhaps too committed, in fact.
But the film is largely a celebration of passion and that universal quest for fulfillment in life, abetted by lashings of gorgeously-shot food porn.
Yet the one negative review came from The New York Times' Nicolas Rapold, who opined that it "wastes valuable time declaring its subject's excellence." Not a sushi fan, then?
