10 Awesome Movies With 99% On Rotten Tomatoes

4. North By Northwest

North By Northwest Crop Duster
MGM

North by Northwest may not quite be Alfred Hitchcock's best movie, but it is arguably his most strictly entertaining, a deliciously charming mistaken identity caper in which every quintessential Hitchcockian element is working together in perfect concert.

From the performances of Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint to Saul Bass' unforgettable titles, Bernard Herrmann's incredible score and every perfectly-crafted set-piece, it's a film that's understandably been parodied and imitated widely across pop-culture over the last 60 years.

It's far more than the mere crop duster scene everyone's seen in one form or another, though - this is a perfectly-paced, classy Hollywood entertainment oozing charm, sex appeal and just enough danger to satisfy.

But a perfect 100% score was denied by a single review during the film's original theatrical release, with The New Yorker's late arts critic Whitney Balliett calling North by Northwest "hopelessly attenuated."

Needless to say, audiences will still be holding up this movie as an all-timer 50 years from now, that review be-damned.
