8. Dark Harbor
Proving the maxim that theres no role that cannot be conquered by Alan Rickman, 1998s Dark Harbor saw him cast as a paranoid older lover seeking to repair his ailing 7-year marriage. Whisking his wife away to a private island for a make or break holiday, Rickman stumbles upon a troubled young wanderer whom he invites into his home, only to find out too late that the kid is a mushroom-eating sociopath intent on stalking his missus. Fast forward several scary chases through the forest and you have 52 year old Rickman stark naked on a boat prow. Fast forward a cleansing swim to the shore and hes doing what so many other heterosexual Hollywood actors darent: indulging in a nice bit of gay snogging. Oh yes, for while Dark Harbor might not have set the box office on fire, nor garnered the critical acclaim enjoyed by his more successful movies, it still sees Rickman the fearless pioneer stride into the sorts of territories his contemporaries fear to tread. And yes, you do see everything. Everything.
