8. Darla Sherman - Finding Nemo
-->Darla isnt necessarily a bad or evil character; she is pretty much just a brat that has a slight tendency to kill her pet fishes, but seeing as the main protagonists of Finding Nemo are all fish, this makes her a great menace and threat. Though we see a picture of Darla quite early on in the film in Shermans dental office, she is a character who is talked about more than actually having a presence or impact in the film. Therefore, she hangs over the fish in Shermans tank as a rather ominous spectre, and once she is introduced, she enters in a very dramatic and sudden way, accompanied by classic horror music, very similar to what can be heard in Hitchcocks Psycho.
This parodying of famous horror films and characters in a Pixar/Disney film not only gives an additional level of humour to the film that only older members of the audience and movie buffs would recognise, but it also connects Darla, a young girl with a face full of braces, to a long line of scary movie villains, and emphasises her as the ultimate threat to the young Nemo and his fishy friends.
Darla almost claims another victim in Nemo, but thankfully her annoying shaking of the bag and shouting "Wake up fishy!" are put to an end thanks to Nigel, the noble and heroic Pelican. Though Nemo, Dory and Marlin still have trails and dangers to face once they escape from Darla and the dentists office near the end of the film, there is no doubt everyone is happy that at least Darla is no longer a threatthat is unless she makes a return in 2015s Finding Dory.
