10 Awesome Pixar Villains
5. Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear - Toy Story 3
Pixar seem to have quite the trend of presenting older, seemingly wiser characters that have charm and an air of friendliness, just to pull the rug out from under us and show us that the likes of Stinky Pete and the cute and cuddly Lotso, to name a few, are actually villains who stand in opposition to our heroes. The hilarious aspect to Lotso is that he is first introduced as a cute and kind pink bear, who is made all the more adorable due to his walking stick. Yet as the film progresses and Lotso is revealed as the main villain of the film, the aspects to his character that make him appear kind and lovable suddenly make him appear more like a Don with his own crew of villains and baddies to make sure Woody, Buzz and the gang stay in their place.
Due to Lotso, like Randall, also getting a back story, Lotso is once again another villain who cant be completely hated or disliked, as unlike any other toy in the Toy Story franchise, he is not only replaced, but by another version of himself. This is a devastating revelation and brings into question what sort of identity do these toys have if they are massed produced and therefore not only not unique and without individuality, but also so easily replaced by their owners?
Therefore, Lotsos bitter and twisted character can be understood, and the audience can make some sort of connection with the villain, instead of them being a distant and totally unlikable character. Because of this, even Lotsos fate of being stuck to the front of a truck, to forever more have dirt and bugs fly into his face, seems unfair, and once again calls into question - who are the real villains of the Toy Story franchise?
The bitter and angered toys whose hearts and emotions are literally and figuratively played with? Or the human characters like Andy, Daisy and Emily, whose emotions and attachment to these toys flicker like a worn out light bulb?
