5. Professor Henry Jones - Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade
After two sublime Indiana Jones movies, nobody would have been
that surprised if number three took a slight dip in quality, yet with the addition of Indy's father Henry Sr. (played superbly by Sean Connery) - who is captured by the Nazis and used as bait to try and capture Indy himself - the dynamic of the series is shifted entirely. What really makes the character work is how strongly he's developed throughout the movie; whether it's his distant relationship with Indy or the fact that he always refers to his son as "Junior", it is both hilarious and ultimately emotionally resonant all at once.
Best Moment: At the end of the movie, Henry finally calls his son by the name "Indiana", making it clear that he cares more about his boy than reclaiming the Holy Grail. This is an example of perfect casting, for the chemistry between Connery and Ford is absolute screen dynamite; it's difficult to imagine anyone else playing the character, and Henry Sr. works superbly as a one-off character (given that it is implied he dies before the forgettable fourth film came out).
