10 Awesome Slasher Films You've Probably Never Seen

10. Cherry Falls

Let€™s start with this classic of bizarre slasher cinema. Starring a very young - and evidently naive for accepting this role - Brittany Murphy, Cherry Falls is a town being terrorised by a serial killer who is cryptically only killing virgins. After two teens are murdered and found with the word €œvirgin€ carved into both of their bodies, kids obviously start to panic and so do the only logical thing: organise a grand-scale orgy to protect themselves from the killer at large. Meanwhile, the grownups decide not to tell the kids anything (always smart, because keeping people in the dark never gives rise to rumour or overreaction), and the police find themselves tarred with the killer€™s brush. Cherry Falls is not a forgotten masterpiece. It has potential, in that Murphy€™s character Jody experiences a parental disappointment storyline that could be an Oscar-winning drama in and of itself. However, a somehow simultaneously obvious and unexpected twist (unexpected because it is almost too obvious) takes away any seriousness that the rest of the film could evoke (well, that and the huge orgy), and the whole thing is a bit of a farce. This may sound damning, but it€™s a damn good farce, and a thoroughly enjoyable watch, as long as you like your slashers on the peculiar side.

Fan of Taylor Swift and the Dead Kennedys (a duet I can only dream of). I like dystopias, slasher films, and video games that make me feel things.
