10 Awesome-Sounding Sequels That Will Never Happen

4. The Rundown 2

Back in the days before he became the highest-paid actor in Hollywood and self-styled 'Franchise Viagra', one of Dwayne Johnson's first starring roles was in The Rundown, one of the most vastly-underrated action movies of the 21st Century.

The Brazilian-set buddy flick teamed the man-mountain up with motormouth Seann William Scott and Rosario Dawson to battle against Christopher Walken at his scenery-devouring hammiest in a movie that featured great chemistry between the leads and some inspired action using locations that you don't usually find in an $85m blockbuster. Sadly, it tanked at the box office and failed to even earn back the production budget, despite very obviously being designed with a sequel in mind.

Since then, Johnson has ascended to the top of the A-list while director Peter Berg has gone on to create both commercially and critically successful projects like Hancock, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon and Patriots Day. Not only that, but Berg has also directed episodes of Johnson's hit HBO series Ballers. So why is there still no sequel?

Johnson might be the busiest actor in Hollywood with about a dozen projects on the go at any one time but he could surely handle one more, Berg has mentioned in numerous interviews that he'd love to make it and even floated the glorious possibility of having Jonah Hill buddy up with The Rock this time around, but getting funding for a sequel to a box office bomb that came out nearly fifteen years ago isn't exactly an easy pitch.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
