10 Awesome-Sounding Sequels That Will Never Happen
5. Dredd 2
Erasing all memories of the terribly ill-judged Sylvester Stallone vehicle, 2012's Dredd absolutely nails its take on the character. Karl Urban's chin channels the spirit of Clint Eastwood in wonderful fashion in a riotously entertaining ultra-violent shoot-em-up loaded with great visuals and a delicious streak of jet-black humor.
At a modestly-budgeted $45m, writer and producer Alex Garland stated that a domestic gross of $50m would be enough to secure the future of the franchise, which sounded reasonable enough. Until the movie tanked despite strong reviews, earning less than $15m in the States and just $35.6m worldwide. Even the fact that Dredd earned more on home video than it did in theaters couldn't change the studio's mind, and neither could the continued efforts of Karl Urban, who was desperate to reprise his role.
However, not all hope is lost.
While there is no possibility of a big-screen sequel whatsoever, it was announced in May that the character could be heading to the small screen with the television series Judge Dredd: Mega City One being in active development. Not only that, but just this month Urban himself revealed that he had been in discussions to get back under the helmet, such is his devotion to the character. We may never get a proper sequel to Dredd, but a TV show would sure as hell do.
