10 Most Awesome Spaceships In Star Wars

1. Millennium Falcon

The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is also the coolest looking. Above all else, fans love the barely held together nature of the battered freighter and its sometimes inconvenient quirks. Appropriately enough for a vessel often engaged in murky goings-on, the Falcon's history and specifics are dotted with inconsistencies. Depending on the source consulted, even the size of the Falcon differs. Die-hard fans will also know that the original concept art for the Millennium Falcon was very different from the vessel that appeared in A New Hope. Ralph McQuarrie's original painting depicted a ship similar to a blockade runner with the Falcon's cockpit at the front. This early profile was considered too much like an Eagle from Space: 1999 to make it to the model-building stage, but elements of this concept ship were used to produce the Tantive IV. The Falcon's shape was eventually inspired by more pedestrian objects: a hamburger and pickle, leading to the Falcon's behind-the-scenes nickname of the Porkburger. Many stories have explored the earlier years of the Falcon, with The Empire Strikes Back revealing that Lando Calrissian owned the Corellian YT-1300 freighter before Han Solo. Although Lando states in 1981's issue 50 of Marvel's Star Wars comic (The Crimson Forever) that he was the first owner of the Falcon. A longer pre-Lando history for the heavily modified freighter seems more likely, however, as the Falcon is glimpsed landing on Coruscant in Revenge Of The Sith. What do you think?
