When the decision was made to put together a sequel trilogy of Star Wars movies, that trio of films started with a bang as audiences were treated to the legendary Max von Sydow's Lor San Tekka as the first figure of significance we see in The Force Awakens.

For Lor San Tekka, though, this would be a fleeting appearance - yet it would likewise being an appearance that was pivotal to The Force Awakens and the following two movies.

Why Lor San Tekka was such an important character is because he has the key part to a map that reveals the location of Luke Skywalker. In those opening minutes of The Force Awakens, we see Tekka pass this vital piece of the puzzle to Poe Dameron so that the Resistance can hopefully track down the Jedi Master.

Adding a further sense of important to Lor San Tekka, he is then almost immediately killed off by Kylo Ren - which served as the perfect way to introduce Kylo as a cold, clinical, merciless figure who was to be taken as a major player in this new trilogy of Star Wars pictures.
