2. Galactus - Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer
I used to have a pack of Marvel Top Trumps, of which I can remember very little. The one thing that really stuck in my memory was that Galactus, a villain Id previously never heard of, was by far the best card. He was so powerful, he was massive, he had great stats and boy did he look fearsome. The promise of him appearing as the big bad in the second Fantastic Four film made a sequel to one of Marvels then-weakest suddenly an enticing prospect. I really shouldn't have been excited. Appearing for all of five minutes he was a space cloud that slowly slunked towards Earth. If I wanted smoke monsters that meandered around with confusing motivation Id watch Lost, thanks very much. This was one of the first times the superhero genre had properly flirted with sci-fi (Thor and Man Of Steel were still a long way off) and its clear there was still some uncertainty with how to do it realistically. If he was to be reimagined now I imagine wed get something a lot more imposing and accurate to the comics, but back then the only way seemed to be make it scientifically realistic.
