10 Awesome Things Actors Have Done While In Costume

2. Jim Carrey Beefing With Jerry Lawler As Andy Kaufman

It's no secret that Jim Carrey was extremely intense about his portrayal of Andy Kaufman during the filming of 1999€™s Man on the Moon. He would show up to the set already dressed as Kaufman, nobody was allowed to refer to him as Jim and he did everything in his power to make the character authentic. This includes getting into several altercations with Jerry "The King" Lawler who famously "fought" with the real Andy Kaufman during the early €˜80s. According to Lawler himself, Carrey didn't seem to be aware that Kaufman and him were actually friends and all of the fighting we all saw on television was more or less dramatized. Carrey would often treat Lawler like they were bitter enemies. One day, wanting to experience everything that Kaufman had experienced, Carrey demanded Lawler to put him in a piledriver for a stunt in the movie. When he declined, Carrey (refusing to break character) flipped out and even went so far as to spit in Lawler's face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYbYqjWWHwM While we don't condone physical violence or people spitting on one another, you have to admit that the entire situation seems like a somewhat fitting salute to the real-life Andy Kaufman who so often blurred the line between what was real and fake. We just hope Carrey properly apologized when it was all said and done.
