Alien may have the most perfect trailer ever made. Opening with a slow reveal of the iconic egg with the word slowly forming, then breaking way to full-out tension building as fast cutting images and screaming siren assault the viewer before coming to rest with a distant shot of the Nostromo and that unforgettable tagline "In space no one can hear you scream", it gets you completely amped for the film without telling you a thing about it. Prometheus, Ridley Scott's sort-of prequel to his sci-fi horror adopted a similar approach is a teaser trailer that heavily replicated the original's. Running only a minute in length it recreated the lettering and soundscape with a more modern bombast. Beyond confirming a link to between the two films it was little more than a sensory assault that sent fan excitement through the roof. Unfortunately this tactic backfired.
