10 Awesome Trailers The Movie Just Couldn't Live Up To

9. TRON: Legacy

They may now own two massively marketable movie series (Star Wars and Marvel), but it seemed for a while Disney didn't quite get the whole franchise idea. The Lone Ranger, John Carter, TRON - these may have been existing properties, but they weren't held with great adoration by the masses. And while the former two were destined for focus-grouped mediocrity from the start, TRON: Legacy looked a very exciting movie. A two minute clip of test footage released at San Diego Comic-Con in 2009 looked awesome and the full trailer, boasting original Daft Punk song The Game Has Changed, really got everyone excited. The designs from the original had been sleekly updated with cutting edge special effects and with the story continuing from the original it reignited interest in the property. Subsequent trailers only furthered excitement, showing a high level of craft had gone into the film. It really was a case of misleading advertising. The music and visuals were indeed as great as they'd seemed in those two minutes montages, but the plot was generic and poorly handled by first-time director Joseph Kosinski. Trailers can get away with style over substance. Feature film's can't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4RiUy23e9s
