10 Awesome Trailers The Movie Just Couldn't Live Up To

4. Alien 3

Prometheus wasn't the first movie in the series to homage Alien's terrifying trailer; Alien 3 (although we still can't decide if it's meant to be Alien Cubed) also went back to the cracking egg and slowly forming letters. Rather than feeling like a confused retread (like the finished film was) however, it works as an exciting trailer in its own right, really pushing fan-boy buttons. Same music, same lettering, same panning shot, only with the added chill of a menacing voiceover simply setting up the film's premise; "In 1979, we discovered in space no one can hear you scream. In 1992, we will discover, on Earth, everyone can hear you scream." Cannot wait. Wait a second, Earth? That's right, before Alien 3 became the prison planet set movie with the incredibly overt sexism undercurrent (and that's saying something after Aliens) the film was going to be something much more interesting. Going through countless drafts, ranging from a wooden monastery planet to a full exploration of what Weyland-Yutani actually wanted to do with the xenomorphs (clue: it ain't good), this was the start of the film's troubled production. The Earth idea was the initial concept, seeing Hicks take the lead role from Ripley and become part of an all-out battle between the company and the military; almost a, God-forbid, payoff of the plot threads of the previous two films. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk_x9W1xKng
