10 Awesome Trailers That Tricked Us Into Seeing Awful Movies

1. Spider-Man 3

Surely one of the most disappointing films in recent memory, Spider-Man 3 is a film that seemed to have everything going for it; fan favourite Venom was finally going to get his due, Sandman was thrown in for good measure, and Harry Osborn got to fly around on a hover-board. After the brilliance of Spider-Man 2, it seemed like the only way was up for Sam Raimi's superhero franchise, with the focus being on Peter Parker turning to the dark side as he encounters the slippery symbiote. The final result was instead a jumbled mess of ideas and plot-lines, none fully formed; Venom showed too much of Topher Grace's face, ret-conning Uncle Ben's death was beyond stupid, they make us feel too sympathetic for Sandman, the MJ-Peter romance is lame and pointless, there's too much forced American iconography (Spider-Man landing in front of the US flag, anyone?), oh, and then there's Emo Peter doing that stupid dance. The film nevertheless made almost $900 million at the box office, but was reviled by comic book nerds and divisive with critics, and Sam Raimi later admitted that he was pressured into pursuing the Venom arc.
