10 Awesome Versions Of Movie Sequels We All Wanted
5. Jurassic Park IV
You don't need us to tell you what a huge hit 1993's Jurassic Park was. Steven Spielberg's dinosaur epic wowed audiences, becoming (for a time) the biggest box office hit ever; yet the sequels couldn't maintain this momentum, with follow-ups The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III falling victim to the law of diminishing returns.
It makes sense, then, that in order to revitalise the series, studio Universal were prepared to take the material in some bold new directions. However, the unmade Jurassic Park IV script that screenwriter John Sayles turned in is legendary in its boldness.
Sayles' 2004 script centres on an ex-military tough guy who winds up leading a unit of dinosaur-human hybrid soldiers, to combat the rising threat of dinosaurs escaping Isla Nublar and attacking populated areas.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this idea was deemed a bit too outlandish, although when Sayles' script was leaked online it was enthusiastically embraced by fandom.
When the fourth Jurassic Park finally arrived 11 years later in the form of Jurassic World, some key aspects of Sayles' vision remained, notably a rough-and-ready military man fighting alongside dinosaurs; and the most recent trailer for the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom suggest we can expect a whole lot more dino action off the island too.
