Making Slender Man seem positively spry and thrilling by comparison is this immensely disappointing old-school horror from the Spierig brothers (Predestination, Jigsaw).

Committing the atrocity of forcing even Helen Mirren to give a rare, genuinely bad performance - her American accent is rough - Winchester touts a decent premise and unique setting, but derails its promise with heaps of expository dialogue and lame jump scares.

Though marketed as a throwback to the Hammer horror era, it's neither campy nor scary enough to be much entertaining, and even with a totally reasonable 99-minute run-time, it's an absolute chore to get through.
