In the grand scheme of things it's easy to argue that Hollywood stars get paid way too much. When you compare their salaries to people who save lives in emergency wards or care for the sick and the elderly, entertaining people by pretending to be someone you're not seems like a frivolous pursuit which is worth less to society as a whole. That said, actors are "bankable assets" in business parlance, and it's perhaps only fair that they are remunerated according to the profits they make for the studios - if a movie sells based on their image on screen then surely they deserve an appropriate slice of the revenues. Still, some actors who are able to demand millions for each movie they appear in aren't particularly good at their craft. They play the same character in every film - often a stereotypical persona which they rinse and repeat from one movie to the next - and, to phrase it diplomatically, they suffer from a talent deficit.
