"Adam Sandler is a lazy hack, a fraud and conman" said one critic upon the release of his incredibly unfunny "comedy" Jack and Jill - it might sound like an overly harsh condemnation of the actor, but upon closer inspection of his cinematic output over the last decade or so it's easy to find yourself agreeing with the verdict. Sandler's movies - overrated at best, even in the early years of movies such as The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore - have long since degenerated into the worst kind of by-the-numbers, lowest common denominator crap which for some bizarre reason go on to earn a fortune at the box office - from Jack and Jill to the Grow Ups series, Sandler's brand of comedy consists of repeatedly telling fart and sex jokes whilst watching his equally talentless friends slap one another around the face or kick each other in the balls. The fact that this endless tirade of atrociously acted, awfully written material almost consistently makes Adam Sandler and co huge sums of money is perhaps more a criticism of the kind of people who lap it up in the multiplexes than it is necessarily of Sandler. Perhaps Sandler is all too aware of how little time and effort he puts into his material and sits in his mansion laughing at the fools who hand over their hard-earned cash, while he counts his $300 million and rising net worth.
