10 Awful Comic Book Movies That Would Actually Benefit From A Reboot
1. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was another high-profile failure from the early years of the comic book movie boom where studios were snapping up everything they could get their hands on, and it ultimately only resulted in financial disaster, Sean Connery's retirement from acting and director Stephen Norrington's self-imposed exile from Hollywood.
Those familiar with the source material will only be keenly aware that the movie was an almost unrecognizable adaptation, and if placed in the right hands and treated with respect the idea of assembling a legendary team of Victorian-era literary heroes to battle the forces of evil could more than live up to the tag of the 'Steampunk Avengers'.
Five years ago, a female-centric reboot was reported to be in the works, which sounded like a terrible idea that made very little sense. Mina Harker is a key figure in the graphic novel, and works well as an audience surrogate, but that just sounded like an attempt to cash in on Hollywood's latest trend.
Penny Dreadful should serve as the template for how The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen should be rebooted, with a healthy dose of retro-futuristic technology thrown in for good measure to drive the action sequences. Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's work was critically acclaimed for a reason, and the League still have the potential to be the stars of their own hugely successful movie.
