10 Awful Films Community Actors Want Us To Forget
2. Life Of The Party - Gillian Jacobs
Melissa McCarthy-led movies can be hit or miss. On the one hand, you have genuinely great outings like Spy, The Heat, or Can You Ever Forgive Me. But on the other you have car crashes like Identity Thief, The Boss and, as already mentioned earlier in this list, The Happytime Murders. Life of the Party, while not as bad as some of them, falls into the latter category.
The film follows McCarthy as she reenrols in college, after a rough divorce, in order to finally earn her degree. Jacobs plays another student who is also significantly older than the others due to having been in a coma for the past eight years.
To the film’s credit, it does have a genuinely sweet tone that attempts to offer uplifting affirmations about starting again and how it’s never too late to do what you really want to do. But it never quite lands on its central theme and just ends up feeling too laid back for its own good.
