10 Awful Franchises That Proved Bad Movies Can Still Make Big Money

Tyler Perry deserves immense credit for establishing a hugely successful multimedia empire that's frequently seen him named as one of the highest-paid names in entertainment, but he also deserves a slap on the wrist for bringing his insufferable creation Madea to the screen no less than eleven times.

There must be a built-in audience for these movies given how regularly they seem to hit theaters, but it wouldn't be unfair to say that Madea was well past her sell-by date a decade ago. Perry seems content to remain defiantly within his wheelhouse at the expense of trying anything daring or exciting, but it's made him an incredibly wealthy man so who are we to argue?

Even though the franchise makes virtually no money anywhere else apart from the United States, Madea is still the star of a series that's brought in well over half a billion dollars at the box office, despite the most enthusiastic of reviews being lukewarm at the very best.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
