7. Remakes And Sequels
There are currently five canonical Paranormal Activity films being worked on, and a no-doubt ground-breaking and unforgettable spin-off to be released in January. And that series is no exception to one of the most tedious of Hollywood trends. If people pay a lot of money to see one film, the logic holds that they will pay just as much, if not more money, to see something thats basically the same but with a number on the end of the title. And, depressingly, that logic holds true. Its a lot easier to churn out a sequel than to come up with the most clichéd and formulaic original story, and also safer financially. To understand why this is the fault of the viewing public, just look at the frantic hype surrounding every sequel to Batman Begins. People took to the streets, rending their garments, and declaring Christopher Nolan their new god, even before theyd seen the films. After the hype surrounding the second in the trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises could get away with being the bloated, deeply-flawed disappointment it was: it was always guaranteed to be a success.
