10 Awful Looking Upcoming Movies That Will Make Serious $$$

Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, Folie à Deux, has been in the works for five years, having been greenlit as soon as Warner Bros. saw their $1 billion box office. While the first film was shot as a one-off, using a superhero-adjacent premise to get a more serious work through the door, there was always wiggle room to pick up the story again.

But while the first movie calls back to Martin Scorsese's filmography, the next entry looks pure Phillips. If the trailers are anything to go by, there's a lot of mindless spectacle but not a whole lot to sink our teeth into. The film looks ramshackle and at odds with any iteration of the comic book character (who Phoenix famously ignored during his initial interpretation), while adding an out-of-place Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, so soon after Margot Robbie's pitch-perfect take is still fresh in our minds.

And, of course, the decision to imbue the picture with a musical element is a massive risk, running contrary in style and tone to any other recent takes on the Batman universe, such as Matt Reeves' acclaimed The Batman.

Folie à Deux will nonetheless make bank, thanks to dedicated fanboys, the continuing superhero and anti-hero hype, the many million of Gaga's Little Monsters, and a massive marketing campaign.
