10 Awful Looking Upcoming Movies That Will Make Serious $$$
5. Venom: The Last Dance
Despite its catchy acronym, the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) has never taken off - but don't tell Sony that.
Year after year, the company keeps pushing out big, expensive superhero films that don't just fail to engage the zeitgeist or source material, but generally fail to be coherent as movies in their own right (looking at you, Morbius and Madame Web). Yet, in the midst of all this, there's Venom.
Simultaneously confirming and defying the litany of issues with the franchise, the Venom movies have managed to carve out something of a strange niche, webbing themselves into a corner of the canon where they can't really be dislodged. And we're not only several films in, but seemingly at the closing chapter of a trilogy nobody even knew was happening. The Last Dance looks flat in both plot and visuals, once again the villains seem vague and unthreatening, and any semblance of meaning is far from its primary concern.
But none of that will stop us going to see it now, will it? Tom Hardy is the main draw for these things, his humour and knack for the two-hander keeping them solvent and just barely coherent, and it is he who everyone will turn up to see again - if only (hopefully?) for the final time.
